Cambridge to Heathrow Taxi and Private Transfer: Fares, Journey Time and Pickup
The journey from Cambridge to Heathrow is about 68 miles. With a pre-booked car or van, there is no queue at a taxi rank, no meter and no changing trains with luggage – just a driver waiting at the agreed time and a fixed fare.
How far, and how long
The distance is about 68 miles (110 km). In normal traffic the drive takes about 1 hour 30 minutes; weekday rush hours, Friday afternoons and bank holiday weekends can add a good deal more. The route runs down the M11, then around the M25 to the west side of London.
About Cambridge
Common pickups are the colleges, the science and business parks, Addenbrooke’s and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, and the railway station; we also collect from Ely, Newmarket, Royston, St Ives and the villages. The route is the M11 to the M25, then round to Heathrow; the M25 between the M11 and the M40 can be slow at peak times, so allow extra time for morning departures.
Car or train?
By train you go into London and take the Elizabeth line from Farringdon or Liverpool Street to Heathrow, with at least one change. With light luggage that works. With a family, long-haul luggage or an early flight, a car from your door to the terminal is simpler, and the fare is per vehicle.
Fares by vehicle
- Economy Sedan (up to 4 passengers, 3 suitcases): from about £155
- First Class Sedan (4 passengers, 3 suitcases): about £218
- Standard Van (6 passengers, 4 suitcases): about £265
- First Class Van (6 passengers, 5 suitcases): about £421
- Minibus (up to 16 passengers, 10 suitcases): from about £468
Prices are per vehicle, not per person. The exact fixed price for your date and address is shown on the booking form before you pay, and does not change with traffic.
Pickup from your door
From Cambridge the drive of about 1 h 30 min means a pickup around 4 hours before a short-haul flight is a safe choice: about 2 hours 30 minutes is left at the airport once you arrive. For long-haul, add another hour. You are collected from your home, hotel or office, help with bags is included, and child seats cost nothing extra. Heathrow has four terminals: 2, 3, 4 and 5. Terminals 2 and 3 share the central area, while 4 and 5 sit on their own, so check that the terminal on your booking matches your ticket.
Arriving back
On the way home from Heathrow to Cambridge, the driver follows your flight's real landing time and meets you in the arrivals hall of your terminal. You get 60 minutes of free waiting from landing, and airport parking is included. Selecting "Return" when you book covers both legs and takes a discount off the return.
