Istanbul Airport (IST) Private Transfers: A Practical Guide
Istanbul Airport (IST) is one of the largest airports in the world, on the European side of the city about 40–50 km north-west of the historic centre. Getting from the terminal to your hotel is a journey that deserves a plan. This guide compares the options and explains how our private transfers work.
Your options from IST
- Private transfer: a driver waiting with your name, fixed price per vehicle, door to door.
- Taxi: from the official rank outside arrivals; metered, fare depends on traffic.
- Havaist airport buses: to several districts including Taksim, Kadıköy and Üsküdar; economical, slower, limited luggage space at busy times.
- M11 metro: from the airport to Gayrettepe, connecting to the wider metro network; efficient for light travellers, harder with suitcases and changes.
Our fixed fares from IST
- Taksim, Beyoğlu, Şişli – €45
- Sultanahmet and Fatih – €45
- Beşiktaş – €50
- Kadıköy – €50
- Üsküdar – €55
- Ataşehir and Ümraniye – €55

Journey times and rush hours
- Taksim: about 45 km, 45–65 minutes off-peak.
- Sultanahmet: about 50 km, 55–80 minutes off-peak.
- Kadıköy (Asian side): 65–90 minutes, depending on bridge traffic.
Weekday rush hours, roughly 07:30–09:30 and 17:00–19:30, can add 30–40 minutes. Public holidays and the summer peak also bring heavy traffic around the airport.
Meeting your driver
We follow your flight. After passport control and customs, walk into the arrivals hall: your driver will be waiting with a sign showing your name. Ignore anyone in the terminal offering rides – use only your pre-booked driver or the official taxi rank outside.
Popular destinations
- Sultanahmet – Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapı Palace and the Grand Bazaar.
- Taksim and Beyoğlu – İstiklal Avenue, Galata and Karaköy.
- Beşiktaş and the Bosphorus shore – waterfront hotels, Ortaköy and Bebek.
- Kadıköy – the lively Asian side, across the Bosphorus.
Tips
- If you land during rush hour, allow extra time before dinner reservations or tours.

- For departures, leave central Istanbul about three to three and a half hours before an international flight from IST.
