Journey times
From IST, Taksim is about 45 km and Sultanahmet about 50 km; outside rush hour, expect 45–60 minutes. Weekday rush hours (roughly 07:30–09:30 and 17:00–19:30) can add 30–40 minutes. Crossing the Bosphorus to the Asian side adds more. From SAW, Kadıköy is the shortest city route; the European side means a bridge crossing.
Which airport should you fly to?
If you are staying on the European side – Sultanahmet, Taksim, Beşiktaş – IST is usually more convenient. For Kadıköy, Üsküdar and the Asian side, SAW is often better. Compare flight times and the transfer together.
