Cappadocia from Antalya: Distances, Options and a Private Transfer
Cappadocia’s fairy chimneys, cave hotels and hot-air balloons are on many travellers’ lists – but it is important to know the distance: Göreme is about 500 km from Antalya, roughly six and a half hours by road. It is not a day trip. Here are the realistic options.
Distances
- Antalya (Kaleiçi) to Göreme: about 507 km, around 6 hours 30 minutes.
- Antalya Airport to Göreme: about 497 km, around 6 hours 20 minutes.
Option 1: a private transfer one way
Travel to Cappadocia by private car, spend two or three nights, and fly home from Kayseri or Nevşehir airports – or book the transfer back. The road goes north over the Taurus mountains via Konya, a good place for a lunch stop and a visit to the Mevlana Museum.
Option 2: fly
There are domestic flights between Antalya and Kayseri or Nevşehir on some days, usually via Istanbul. Including the airport time, flying is not always faster than driving, but it is less tiring.
Option 3: an organised tour
Agencies sell two-day bus tours from the resorts. They are the cheapest option, but involve long days on a coach.
Balloon flights
Hot-air balloon flights take place in Cappadocia at sunrise, weather permitting – not around Antalya. Book the balloon directly with a licensed operator in Cappadocia, and plan at least two mornings in case a flight is cancelled because of wind.
