Pamukkale from Antalya: Is It a Day Trip, and How to Do It by Private Car
Pamukkale’s white travertine terraces and the ruins of Hierapolis above them are one of Türkiye’s best-known sights. From Antalya, the drive is about 240 km each way, roughly three hours – so it is possible as a long day trip, but it pays to plan it carefully.
Distances
- From Kaleiçi: about 237 km, around 3 hours.
- From Antalya Airport: about 246 km, around 3 hours.
- From Kemer, Belek or Side: add the drive to Antalya.
The day
Leave Antalya around 07:00 and you arrive mid-morning. Allow at least four hours: walk up the travertines barefoot (shoes are not allowed on the terraces), explore Hierapolis’s theatre and necropolis, and, if you wish, swim in the Antique Pool among fallen columns. Leave in the late afternoon and you are back in Antalya in the evening.
Day trip or overnight?
A day trip means about six hours in the car. If you are staying further east in Side or Alanya, or travelling with children, consider one night in Pamukkale and seeing the terraces at sunset and early morning, when they are quieter.
Private car vs a coach tour
Coach tours from the resorts are cheaper per person but start very early, collect from many hotels and keep to a fixed schedule. A private car leaves when you want, stops when you want, and suits families and groups who share the cost of the vehicle.
Booking
Book the outward journey on the booking form and choose “Return” with the date and time of your journey back – the same day or the next. Both legs are paid together, with a discount on the return leg. Fares are per vehicle, for up to 6 passengers, and shown before you pay.
What to bring
Sunglasses (the white rock is dazzling), sun cream, a bag for your shoes, and swimwear if you want to use the Antique Pool, which has a separate ticket.
